What we study in 6th grade Science:
Units studied in 6th grade Science (with mini-descriptions)
- Diversity of Life (Life in different environments, structures and functions of living things, cells and microscopes)
- Chemical Interactions (An inquiry into the structure and behavior of matter, phase change, dissolution, and reaction, and learning about elements)
- Earth History (landforms, rocks, sedimentary rocks, fossils, igneous rocks, (volcanoes, earthquakes and metamorphic rocks as time allows)
Each student is required to keep their unit packet up to date and to do the daily science starter. Students are encouraged to keep their packets for the unit with them in their trapper. However, the packets may stay in the classroom, so they are available each day for notes from discussion, movies, activities and labs. Students will need to be responsible to bring their packets to class each day. Any notes needed for tests will be available as study guides and will be handed out in class usually 1 1/2 – 2 weeks in advance. Sometimes we will go through the packet and highlight or star key items to know for the test, and then in an effort to save paper, a study guide will not be sent home. Study guides will be available on Mrs. Long’s twitter account. Packets are always welcome to go home for studying and to finish class work; please bring them back for the next day’s class.
