The aim of the Linn-Mar Band program is to help students reach their full musical potential and to establish a lifelong appreciation for music by developing their musicianship and a basic understanding of the musical concepts of melody, harmony, form, tone color and rhythm.
Through the study of instrumental music, students music will be able to comprehend all the concepts, skills, and activities that are presented in the curriculum. In addition, learners will be comfortable in their learning environment and will obtain a high level of musical competency. To these ends the following goals have been established for the band program.
- make music alone and with others
- understand the basic concepts of music
- respond to music intellectually, emotionally and physically
- make aesthetic judgments based on critical listening and analysis
- develop positive attitudes toward music.
- experiment with musical creativity alone and with others
- use the vocabulary and notation of music
- become acquainted with a wide variety of music
- become familiar with the role music plays in our lives
- develop a feeling of worth for self and others
