Dan Terrell is Co-Director of Bands at Linn-Mar High School and Teaching Artist in Trumpet at Coe College. A native of Boone, Iowa, Mr. Terrell received his Master of Music Education Degree from the University of Kansas and his Bachelor of Music Degree from The University of Iowa. At Linn-Mar High School, Mr. Terrell directs the Wind Symphony and Jazz Collective and co-directs the Marching Lions. He teaches brass, woodwind, and percussion lessons at Linn-Mar High School to students in grades 9-12. Students he has taught have been selected to the Iowa All-State Music Festival, Iowa All-State Jazz Band, and the Iowa All-8th Grade Honor Band. Ensembles under Mr. Terrell’s direction have received consistent Division I “Superior” ratings at Iowa state festivals and have placed well in area and state-level competitions. A Cedar Rapids resident and trumpet player, Mr. Terrell has performed with numerous groups including Orchestra Iowa, the Cedar Rapids Municipal Band, Theater Cedar Rapids, Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale, and ConcertIA. He has also performed with a number of other groups around the state including the Boone Municipal Band (with performances in Germany in 2005), Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra, Mason City Jazz Coalition, and more. He has performed as a soloist and guest conductor with the Boone Municipal Band and the New Horizons Band of Iowa City. He has also served as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator at various events around the state. Mr. Terrell has served as an advisor for the Iowa Ambassadors of Music tour throughout Europe multiple times. Mr. Terrell’s professional affiliations include the Iowa Bandmasters Association, Northeast Iowa Bandmasters Association (where he currently serves as President), Jazz Educators of Iowa, and the Iowa State Education Association. Mr. Terrell’s wife, Vanessa, is the owner and director of The Pointe School of Dance in Cedar Rapids.
